Sunday Dinner. It’s warm, inviting, and tasty. It unites the family and feeds the soul. And it connects us to our histories. Shouldn’t films do that? We think so. At the Sunday Dinner Screening Series, we haven’t got any macaroni and cheese or cornbread (yet). What we do have is a screen, our curiosity, a few guests, and a community. All that’s missing is you.

Directed by Legendary Independent Black Filmmaker Spencer Williams, this stylized morality tale was made exclusively for African American audiences and distributed largely through showings at black southern churches. Beautiful to watch, "The Blood of Jesus" rebuts the stereotypical images of Blacks presented by mainstream studio productions of the day. Williams' film is unique in the period, depicting three-dimensional black characters and at times using documentary methods to depict black life, love, and belief in the south.
